Trackback Spam

Hi folks,

Has anyone else been spammed (severely) through the TrackBack plugin? I've had to "chmod 000" the plugin, as I'm receiving over 2000 spam attacks per day with this plugin. I can't add a denyhost line to the plugins dir either, as the IP addresses seem to be different each time.

Any clues on how to sort this out? Is there a Captcha available for this plugin?

TIA,

Cab

Re: Trackback Spam

It is impossible to add CAPTCHA to Trackback, protocol does not support it. I personally advice to disable TrackBack, if somebody wants to link to his article from yours, they can still post in (moderated) comments...

Re: Trackback Spam

Hi,
today I purned my table with tb. From this midnight there was 1 000 000 rcords (380b for each) = aprox 300 MB of tb table.
Never mind, tb plugin is disabled (change setting to NOT receive ping, send is allowed). My script for deleting those spam works, but at this rate 1 url per 1 sec its useless.

So, disable tb plugin and save the sql server smile

Re: Trackback Spam

Well, the "attacks" carried on, although they didn't show up in my blog.

However, I ended up block certain subnets using IPTABLES, to stop the attempts filling up my apache logs.
