There are a few typical solutions for this issue, picture with letters\digits for example. But if you are planning to make a huge blog (thousands of people), you should approve a lot of them daily - not a good work

well, up to you, if you want, you can only change one routine (work for 10 minutes, PHP coding), that will automatically create a weblog for each new member..

picture with digits is a bit more work, but doable..
